The Bob Hall trophy for outstanding sportsmanship

We have a new trophy up for grabs this season, The Bob Hall trophy for outstanding sportsmanship.

Bob Hall

Bob Hall is a very good friend of the club and is very well known in the village.   Bob is the Chairman of the Liphook Day Centre at The Peak Centre, which offers some of our elderly residents a place to meet up and spend time together.  Bob has, together with his wife, previously won the Pride of Liphook award for the work he does with our local residents.  Bob is heavily involved with fundraising for the Royal British Legion amongst other things.

Personally, for me, Bob has been a great help.  He is always full of advice and has made me aware of local grants that are available.  On match days, Bob is always the first supporter through the clubhouse door to update the notice board, to order his half time teas for him and his friends and he always takes the time to offer me some words of wisdom.  He is a very interesting man and I look forward to our chats on a Saturday.

I approached Bob to ask him if it was OK to have a trophy made with his name on it.  Of course, he was very humble and I think it came as a surprise to him.  I explained to him that I wanted him to know how much he was appreciated.  Often trophies are made to commemorate people, so I did not want him to find it in poor taste, but Bob understood what I was trying to do and besides, there are many many more good years ahead, I am sure.

The Trophy will be awarded at the end of the season and can be won by anybody from any age group within the club.  The winner of this trophy will have shown outstanding sportsmanship.  This could be a single act of sportsmanship, perhaps, helping out an injured member of the opposition or showing exceptional honesty in helping a referee with a decision.  This could also be a season long thing, if a player has shown outstanding sportsmanship every week, I want to hear about it.  It could be a manager  whose team receives the highest marks for sportsmanship.

Nominations should be sent to me via the email address below with the subject line of “Nomination – Bob Hall Trophy”
